The Ore Greenway link is based on the Greenway potential of the existing rail corridor which currently contains sufficient surplus hard-standings and marginal land to fit a safe Greenway link alongside the operational railway.

Ore Rail Corridor

The Greenway concept is attractive here because in a hilly town like Hastings gentle railway gradients are attractive for walking cycling and special needs. The Greenways linear-park route also contains spectacular town-scape views and vistas not obtained elsewhere. The Greenway concept includes an integral (Campus to Campus) College Link that gives safe direct, mostly trafficfree, access between the Station Plaza and the Parker Road (Ore); and a Hastings Academy Greenway Link, thus meeting new academic, civic and community needs.

A key current project is to liaise with Network Rail (NR) on the best way to deliver a safe rail-corridor based greenway alongside an operational railway. NR (who support the Greenway project) need to complete a Greenway impact study that will determine if the Greenway can meet railway asset-protection conditions; can deliver added value for NR; and can continue NR’s unique role as an urban regeneration catalyst around stations in Hastings, Ore and St Leonards.East Sussex County Council’s Walking & Cycling Plan, supported & endosed by Hastings Borough Council, Hub,Sustrans and others now supports the Ore rail corridor link.
