East Sussex County Council (ESCC) have always supported the Greenway project. From 1995 to 2008 ESCC were key members of the Hastings Greenway Executive, a steering group tasked with developing and delivering theGreenway’s pilot projects in or near the town centres rail corridor. ESCC are now tasked with developing a sustainable and integrated transport plan for Hastings and Bexhill, a plan to improve local health & wellbeing, and a plan to support local primary secondary and further education.

Hastings Walking & Cycling Plan

The Greenways fits very well with these aims and objectives. In 2014 ESCC published details of a Hastings Walking & Cycling Plan (HWSP) for Hastings, that shows a borough network to encourage more walking and cycling. The HWSP has in part adopted the Greenway’s proposed routes, especially those greenway links located within the rail corridor. ESCC are currently liaising with Hastings Borough Council (HBC) and Network Rail (NR) to determine the best way to deliver the next stage of the Greenway project.
