The Greenway’s town centre link, an innovative linear park concept, is only feasible if it can be located within the rail corridor (on NR land). Railtrack and Network Rail (NR), have always supported this Greenway concept in principle, subject to further studies. From 1995 to 2008 Rail Track were key members of the Hastings Greenway Executive, a steering group tasked with developing and delivering the Greenway’s early pilot projects in or near the town centresrail corridor.

Railway Renaissance

As of 2014, Network Rail SE have a new corporate plan to meet a Railway Renaissance especially in the SE. Part of NR’s agenda HS1 is a likely upgrade (electrification) of the Asford-Hastings Line. A key aim of the Greenway is to support this agenda by helping to enhance station access (especially for walkers & cyclists) and enhancing station settings. NR are currently working with Hastings Borough Council, East Sussex County Council and the Hasting Greenway Group, to see how best to proceed in developing & delivering the Greenway project.
