The tunnel footpath (Brisco’s Walk) was neglected overgrown annd unsafe, but the location has spectacular views along the rail corridor, the town centre, amd the West Hill skyline. The project was triggered by Greenway funding (SRB) and the bequest of Miss Vera Elfreda Diana Hendley 1918 -2000, and a contribution by the Environment Agency. HBC and ESCC stafff time was counted as matching funding. Additional work was by BTCV and a Greenspace Project was funded by the Council and a Biffaward. Restoration and enhancment works included a wider resurfaced footpath and viewing alcove with seating. A local artist/sculpture created contextual works which doubledas vandal tolerant seating.
